Reese Witherspoon Shared Her Love of Westman Atelier’s Red Lipstick | Allure

by beauty journalist

It’s hard enough to find a shade of red lipstick that works for one person. But last year, when Reese Witherspoon graced the pages of Vogue, the magazine’s makeup artist managed to find one that worked for the star herself, her daughter Ava Phillipe, and mother Betty Witherspoon. (Of course, it helps that all three generations of Witherspoon-Phillippe women have the same exact skin tone and hair color.) Now, many months later, Witherspoon took to Instagram to reveal the shade in question.

“This gorgeous red lip was used for our Vogue shoot,” she wrote on Instagram story. It turns out that the shade is in fact an assemblage of four shades, courtesy of celebrity makeup artist Gucci Westman, who has worked with A-list clients like Witherspoon, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jennifer Aniston.

For the uninitiated, Westman Atelier Lip Suede is a lip compact that contains four red shades in one: fuchsia, brick, tomato, and dusty rose. Speaking from experience, the compact is almost too beautiful to use, but once you do, it’s easy to choose one shade or blend all four into a custom red.

“As a makeup artist, I always like to have a lot of colors next to each other,” Westman told Allure of Lip Suede. “I love contrast. I never really love when you see a palette and all the colors are too similar. It’s just easier to have a lot of options, and for our first designated lip product, I wanted it to be fun and have great functionality.”

As you can see from Witherspoon’s ‘gram, the red in question adds some polish to a casual, natural-looking makeup look. At $85, it’s a splurge — but hey, talk to your mom and Grandma, and maybe you can split it three ways.
